Lowther Endowed School
& Little VIPs Day Care

Achieving, Caring, Enjoying

Welcome

"I'm really happy with the school. The teachers, support staff and office staff should be proud of what a great wee school Lowther has become . Teachers and the headteacher are very approachable with any concerns and we like how any concerns are taken seriously."  A parent

"My children are really happy at the school, as are we as parents. Mrs Wield clearly has a passion for the school and all it does and this is reflected in the staff, and throughout the school. My children have now been in each class in the school and each teacher and member of staff has responded quickly and knowledgeably to any questions or concerns. They are always welcoming and happy to answer any questions. Thank you to all involved in the hard work you all put in to making school such a lovely place for our children"  A parent

"Pupils enjoy coming to Lowther Endowed School. They are happy in school and value being part of the team. Pupils enjoy the vibrant and exciting school environment. Staff know pupils and their families very well. They ensure that pupils feel supported and are safe."   Ofsted 2024

"The school has high expectations about what pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), will learn. Pupils’ excellent behaviour ensures that they can learn in a safe and undisrupted environment. They achieve well across a range of subjects." Ofsted 2024

Welcome to Lowther Endowed School

Lowther Endowed School is handily located in the beautiful Eden Valley between Penrith and Shap, in the village of Hackthorpe. Our catchment area consists of 6 villages and many rural hamlets and farms, but we welcome children from other areas too.

From 1st July 2024, Little VIPs Day care joined Lowther Endowed School.  We are delighted to take this well-established outstanding Nursery over and embrace the staff, children and families into our own Lowther Endowed School family.

Our school has three classes:

Hedgehogs: Reception and Year 1 (Miss Booth)

  Otters: Years 2, 3 & 4 (Mrs Thomas/Ms Thwaites)

Badgers: Year 5 & 6 (Mrs Douthwaite/Mrs Steadman)

We have spaces available in all year groups currently.  Our children are supported across the school by our teaching assistants -

Mrs Gill, Mrs Pinkerton, Miss Tickner and Mrs Daley.

See our Nursery section on our website for full details of the Nursery provision.

We are very fortunate to have excellent facilities, including a hall and large classrooms, along with excellent outdoor facilities such as playing field, large wildlife area and playground. We also have the use of the local tennis courts, where we can play netball and football. The school has access to a dedicated Forest School area in the forest nearby as well as developing an exciting on-site forest skills area.  We are very lucky to have a staff member, Emma Daley, trained as a Forest School practitioner  (see our Forest School page).  We believe that being in outdoors, appreciating the beautiful place we live and work in, is vital to our well-being and to develop a sense of belonging and community.  Our children truly love the outdoors, keeping fit and healthy and we really celebrate their positive attitude in being active.

Our meals are fantastic! These are cooked on site by our chef Anthony works hard to provide delicious, nutritious food every day that the children will enjoy. We use locally sourced food wherever possible.

Every day, we have an after school club, which is very popular, run by Emma Daley.  We also have a breakfast club (from 8 am) and an 'early bird' drop off club available which is run by Lynn Pinkerton.

We provide a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including a great outdoor residential trip to Lockerbie Manor, and an action-packed urban residential to Edinburgh (alternate years for Year 5 and 6).

We consider PE to be a very important part of our curriculum and are providing the children with opportunities to try a range of sports such as orienteering, fencing,  wheelchair basketball and archery alongside the more traditional school team games - football, cricket, tennis and rugby.  Action Ants help us provide such a varied range of sporting activities.  We love to enter competitions and are being incredibly successful (of course it is the taking part that is important!)

Please feel free to contact the School if you would like more information or would like to come and look around our fabulous school.

Thank you for visiting our website.
