Pupil Premium & Poverty Proofing

What is Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium is additional funding given to school so that they can adequately support and close the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers. It also supports children and young people with parents in the armed forces. The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is not ‘ring fenced’ and schools are free to spend it as they wish but must demonstrate that the expenditure is contributing to closing performance gaps between children who experience disadvantage of some kind. The grant is intended to benefit children who are currently in school.

Principles

At Lowther Endowed School we have worked to identify and overcome the barriers to learning that children and young people from families with less financial resources face.

We are a fully inclusive school and ensure that every child, no matter their background, is given access to the same opportunities.  To help families we do the following:

  • We ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all the pupils
  • We ensure that appropriate provision is made for all pupils that belong to all vulnerable groups
  • All pupils receiving Pupil Premium Funding will be clearly identified and individual plans will be put in place to ensure the Funding is used to effectively to meet their individual needs. The school will carefully monitor the impact of any interventions / enhancements or support provided to ensure best value.
  • Residentials - subsided Sports Premium;
  • School uniform & PE kit - does not have school logo.  Shoes can be dry trainers/walking shoes.  We do not charge for second-hand uniform  - parents are able to swap etc;
  • Stationery - we provide every child with all the resources they need for lessons;
  • Food technology - we provide all the food need for cooking lessons;
  • Swimming - no cost to families (we swim 2 x year);  we request a contribution to transport
  • Water bottles - school provides;
  • ICT - all pupils have individual iPads;
  • Staff gifts - we discourage the buying of staff presents at Christmas and end of year;
  • Christmas cards - we encourage 1 card per family;
  • Fundraising for charity - we only have 1 or 2 events per year
  • School lunches - all children have access to salad bar as well as 2nds if they wish;
  • Homework - before setting we ensure all pupils have access to appropriate ICT at home, and if not, an iPad would be available or alternative homework set;
  • Team sports kit - provided by school.

Please read the information below which gives details of our Pupil Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.

Pupil premium funding is available to:

  • local authority maintained schools, including special schools, pupil referral units (PRUs), and voluntary-sector alternative provision (AP).
  • special schools not maintained by the local authority (NMSS).
