Hello and welcome to Otters,
We have 20 children in Otters and we are a mixed Year 3 and 4 Class. Mrs. Douthwaite is our teacher and she teaches us everyday except on a Thursday afternoon when Mr. French from Action Ants teaches us for P.E and Mrs. Gill teaches us RE or French. During the day Mrs. Gill supports the class in literacy work and Miss. Osbourne helps during numeracy lessons. We really enjoy working hard and enthusiastically but we also like having great fun, linking our topic to all areas of the curriculum.
We 'work hard and play hard.'
Our classroom is organised so that everybody has a job and responsibility to look after the class environment. We have a numeracy and literacy area and also use displays to help with our learning. We have decided that being good isn't good enough, so instead...
'we aren't good...we are amazing.'
Our main priority is to work hard as a team and ensure the classroom is a lovely working environment where we can aim to succeed with our work, learning and progress. You can also look at our Facebook page for regular updates, where you can see just how hard we work.
Autumn Term Topic
This term our topic is 'The Amazon and Local Rivers.' Please have a look at the topic plan below for more information.
On Thursday afternoon we have Mr. French from Action Ants, we will be learning lacrosse and after half term archery and fencing. We also finish the week with P.E on a Friday afternoon. This half term we will be learning how to play netball and after half term dance.
Please ensure you have your PE kit in school at all times just in case lessons are moved due to the weather. Yellow T shirt, blue shorts and trainers should be warn but I always encourage tracksuit bottoms and jumpers, it is much better to keep your muscles warm and enjoy the sport you are taking part in rather than getting cold. Also can I ask for earrings to be taken out for these two days or easily removable before PE lessons.
Our homework this term includes spellings which are set on a Tuesday or a Thursday (please see your child's homework book as this will inform you when they will receive homework). Spelling homework relates to lessons which have been taught during the week so it is important to complete, helping to reinforce learning. Every Wednesday your child will receive times table homework which can be practised in the little blue book, verbally in the car, on the way to clubs or using the times table Rockstars login. Each Wednesday we will have a little quiz to see how we have improved from our previous score. Our aim is to be able to answer times table questions in any order within 6 seconds! Although this sounds like we are very busy at home, remember that we have a full week to complete all our work, it is important to be proactive and manage our time.
We try to read every night and also realise it is still very important to read to an adult at least four times a week, this enables you to be entered into the 'Reading Raffle' giving you the chance to win a lovely book of your choice.
Home learning is also sent home once every half term. This is where we either complete a project about our topic or complete additional numeracy or literacy work.
We hope you enjoy looking at our page, finding out about what we are up to and discovering just how amazing we all are in Otters!
