We are a mixed Year 2 and Year 3 class and Mrs Thomas is our teacher. There are 24 children in our class and we work really hard and have lots of fun! Mrs Pinkerton and Miss Auty support work in Squirrels class during the week, helping groups of children with numeracy and literacy and working with individuals. Mrs Tickner teaches us Science and French on a Friday afternoon when she covers PPA for Mrs Thomas.
In the Autumn term our topic is Knights and Quests. We will be linking many of our subjects to our topic and our class reader - Tumbleweed by Dick King Smith - links in as well. In Literacy we will be reading and writing poems about dragons, adventure stories based on traditional tales, information texts linked to castles and letters / postcards. In Numeracy we will be learning about place value, performing mental and written addition and subtraction calculations, learning multiplication facts, money, time and also fractions. We are hoping to arrange a school visit to a castle in the second part of the autumn term. Please view our topic web for further information about our learning.
We will have PE on Monday (Action Ants - taster sessions in a range of sports) and Thursday (Fitness / Running and Ball Skills). Complete outdoor P.E. kit is required each week - white or yellow T-shirts, blue or black shorts, trainers and a tracksuit. Please ensure all clothes are named, long hair is tied back and earrings are removed or covered with tape.
We take a reading book home each night to read as often as possible - three times a week would be great! Please keep note of any reading done at home in the reading log. Additional homework will be timetabled as it is introduced during the term.
We hope you enjoy looking at our page and reading about what we have been up to!

The Busy Trip by Henry
Squirrels, we went to Carlisle Castle and Penrith Castle. First we visited the Captain’s Tower then we visited the garderobe. There were spiral stairs. They made us tired. Then we visited the keep then we went to Penrith Castle. We had to find the kitchen. When we found the kitchen we had a photo and then it was play time.
The Old Castles by Elizabeth
We went to Carlisle Castle. When we got there we talked about staff and then we put our lunches away. Then we went to the garderobe. It is actually a toilet and we smelled a smell which was like a number two! Then we went to the keep. Inside the keep there was the Great Hall. We smelled a smell which was a fire place and it smelled wild. Then we went to the dungeons and we dressed up. Riley was a prisoner and Hughie was the queen, Adam was a knight and next we went on the bus and we went to Penrith Castle. It is a ruin and a ruin is a broken castle. Mazie and Annabelle and Skye and Rhona went down the garderobe but they didn’t know and finally we went to the park. It was so legendary.

Squirrels Day Out by Theo
On Monday we went to Carlisle Castle and Penrith Castle. First we went to the keep. In the keep there was a garderobe. A garderobe is the toilet. What a smell! There was a great hall which is the main room in the keep. Before that we went to the Captain’s Tower. Suddenly we spotted a hole it was a death hole. The death holes were used to drop stuff like hot sand and hot water. There was a little door in the big door because people were smaller then. After that we had our lunch and we split into groups. We went to the cannons and we went to the Mary Queen of Scots Tower. Then we went to Penrith Castle. We went to the gatehouse and we had to find the kitchen and the garderobe. After that we went to the park and I played on everything. It was amazing.
25.09.17 Action Ants:
This weeks Action Ants session was based on balance and agility. The children followed a course of stepping stones, beams, balance tracks and hurdles to collect "treasure", then worked in teams to complete a relay course. A game of prison ball (dodgeball) completed our time with Mr French.
