Bonjour...and welcome to Otters,
We are incredibly lucky to only have 15 children in our class which includes both year 4 and 5 children. Miss. Cowin is our teacher and she teaches us everyday except on a Tuesday afternoon when Mrs. Tickner teaches us Science and French. We really enjoy working hard and enthusiastically but we also like having great fun and enjoy linking our topic to all areas of the curriculum.
We 'work hard and play hard.'
Our classroom is organised so that everybody has a job and responsibility to look after the class environment. We have a numeracy and literacy area and also use displays to help with our learning. We have decided that being good isn't good enough, so instead...
'we aren't good...we are amazing.'
Our main priority is to work hard as a team and ensure the classroom is a lovely working environment where we can aim to succeed with our work, learning and progress.
This term our topic is all about World War II. We will be learning about the Battle of Britain, The Blitz, Women at War and much more! If you have any resources or information about World War II then please do send them in. We are also hoping to organise a visit to Manchester to the Imperial War Museum, so watch this space...
This half term we will have PE on a Thursday and we will be using Mrs Pinkerton's dance expertise to learn some World War II dances and also wartime music. On a Friday afternoon we will also welcome Mr. French from Action Ants. This term we are learning Archery, a non-traditional sport. We always make sure that our complete outdoor P.E. kit is in school which consists of a yellow T-shirt, blue or black shorts, trainers and a tracksuit. For safety reasons we tie our hair back and remove or cover earrings with tape.
Our homework this term includes spellings, which will be set on a Monday (common exception words) and Friday (phonic/spelling patterns which relate to our own personal levels). Every morning we practise spellings and handwriting as a morning task. Maths is set every Wednesday, this includes times tables. Each Wednesday we will have a little quiz to see how we have improved from our previous score. Although this sounds like we are very busy at home, we remember that we have a full week to complete all our work, so it is important to be proactive and manage our time.
We try to read every night and also realise it is still very important to read to an adult at least three times a week.
Home learning books are sent home, this is where we either complete a project about our topic or complete additional numeracy or literacy work.
We hope you enjoy looking at our page, finding out what we are up to and discovering just how amazing we all are in Otters!
