Bonjour...and welcome to Otters,
We have 27 children in Otters and we are a mixed Year 3 and 4 Class. Miss. Cowin is our teacher and she teaches us everyday except on a Thursday afternoon when Mrs. Gill teaches us RE and French. We are also very lucky to have Mr. French for P.E on a Thursday afternoon and enjoy accessing non-traditional sports, as well as team games and sports relating to the different seasons. We really enjoy working hard and enthusiastically, but we also like having great fun and enjoy linking our topic to all areas of the curriculum.
We 'work hard and play hard.'
Our classroom is organised so that everybody has a job and responsibility to look after the class environment. We have a numeracy and literacy area and also use displays to help with our learning. We have decided that being good isn't good enough, so instead...
'we aren't good...we are amazing.'
Our main priority is to work hard as a team and ensure the classroom is a lovely working environment where we can aim to succeed with our work, learning and progress. You can also look at our Facebook page for regular updates, where you can see just how hard we work.
Autumn Term Topic
We are incredibly excited to be learning about 'The Stone Age and Iron Age' and later on in the term 'The Romans.' Already we are looking forward to our Stone Age and Iron Age Day, Phunky foods linked to 'The Romans' and also a possible trip to Hadrian's Wall. Make sure you have a look at the topic plan below to find out exactly what we will be doing in all areas of the curriculum.
On Wednesday we are lucky to welcome Emma Cooper from The Sports Partnership where we are developing our Orienteering skills. We will be outside whatever the weather so please ensure PE kits are in school along with waterproof clothing. After half term we will be playing netball and developing skills in this sport.
On Thursday we have Mr. French from Action Ants and we are learning the non-traditional sport, Lacrosse. After half term, we will be taking part and developing skills in Hockey.
Please ensure you have your PE kit in school at all times just in case lessons are moved due to the weather. Yellow T shirt, blue shorts and trainers should be warn but I always encourage tracksuit bottoms and jumpers, it is much better to keep your muscles warm and enjoy the sport you are taking part in rather than getting cold.
Our homework this term includes spellings, which will be set on a Monday (common exception words)relating to your own personal areas to improve. You will also receive homework from your GAPS lessons, so do keep an eye out for this work in your yellow books. Maths is set every Thursday, this includes times tables. Each Thursday we will have a little quiz to see how we have improved from our previous score. Although this sounds like we are very busy at home, we remember that we have a full week to complete all our work, so it is important to be proactive and manage our time.
We try to read every night and also realise it is still very important to read to an adult at least four times a week, this enables you to be entered into the 'Reading Raffle' giving you the chance to win a lovely book of your choice.
Home learning is also sent home, this is generally a couple of times each half term and this is where we either complete a project about our topic or complete additional numeracy or literacy work.
We hope you enjoy looking at our page, finding out about what we are up to and discovering just how amazing we all are in Otters!
